Summary: The Hollow Man had been gone for 247 days.

For the first time in nearly a decade, no murders. No ciphers. No anonymous messages slipped into newsroom mail slots or left beneath windshield wipers outside police headquarters. Investigators quietly began transferring personnel off the task force, convinced that the killer had either died, fled, or simply decided the game was over.

Then, at 6:18 a.m. on a rainy Tuesday morning, everything changed.

A groundskeeper arriving at Blackstone Memorial Park discovered the body of a local attorney seated on a weathered stone bench overlooking the cemetery. There were no signs of struggle, no obvious murder weapon, and no witnesses despite the park sitting less than a quarter mile from a busy neighborhood. Resting neatly beside the victim was a sealed envelope bearing a symbol every investigator in the state recognized immediately, a hollow circle drawn with a single vertical line through its center.

Within an hour, every major news station was reporting the same headline:

THE HOLLOW MAN HAS RETURNED.
